TweetIt is a great experience me and my buddy fish some bigger lakes that way and it's very relaxing and fun glad u had a great time bro
Tweeti have always had bass boats. i sold mine several years ago so i could get a motorcycle. well i bought a kayak off craigslist for $150
how relaxing.
wind was out of the east, made the bite real hard but found a protected cove with a lot of willow which normally pays off big time. saw some decent fish cruising but no matter what i threw they would not bite. tried watermelon texas rigged lizard (that is go to bait here and now) spinner bait, senko, pitching a jig (hard from a yak) finesse wacky worm. rapala jerk bait............ nothing.
who cares it was awesome out there. i have been to ponds but never the big lake. did have about a 4' gar swim right up to the kayak following my bait and just sit there like he expected it to fall back in the water. I could have tapped him on the head.
saw some carp probably weighed 30-40#. thought about next time bringing some dough bait. a 30# fish puts up a helluva fight.
they did not get spooked by the kayak like they would a bass rig.
got skunked but when i was back on the shore with my yak on top of the jeep i was so relaxed

TweetThat's really cool Jipped, I allways been wanting to try that. you can really get into some hot spots really stealthy with one of those. Oh and roger that on the gar, we used to bow fish for alligator gar back when I lived there and the large mouths are the size of footballs !

TweetAwesome bro, nothing like fishing. Me and my bro are heading to Maine tonight for some ice out pike fishing. Ice out was 4 days ago so we should be hitting it just right before the spawn. Hopefully I will be posting up some pics of big pike.
Get back out there, catch some fish and post some pics!
TweetHow does the kayak go on your jeep? You have those roof racks that attach to the body and sit over the roof?
TweetMight look at a roof rack for mine if it looks cool enough..lol.
TweetPRETTY NICE JIPPED! WE HAVE SOME AT THE LAKE HOUSE..THEY ARE ALWAYS FUN!
Tweeti looked at racks but they are $300+. i just took two pieces of carpet, 1 front and 1 back. tossed the yak up there and strapped it to my front light bar and spare tire.
been 65 on the highway and all good.
a rack would be more convenient for sure but i am cheap
Tweetwent out again yesterday, fished a bunch of submerged buckbrush and willow. water was a little dirty and conditions excellent. saw some fish moving in the shallow water among the brush but could not get a bite again.
used a spinner bait to cover water. tried a chatterbait and a plastic lizard. nothing. then a huge bolt of lightning hit a mile or so away. here i was in a kayak with 2 graphite rods sticking up like lightning rods.
i got off the water quick
TweetYOU CAN CERTAINLY COVER SOME GROUND IN A KAYAK TOO! THEY ARE QUICK ON THE WATER!
Tweetture, i had no need to as there was so much good cover. i also stodd up on the yak. not sure i would do it while fishing like some guys. maybe with practice
