First of all, the Republicans don't have the power to stop the president from passing stimulus spending bills, because as the president has proven to us with his actions, he doesn't care about the legislative process and the Constitution, but instead uses his executive authority to pass those things he deems important enough to cram through. Second, they are idiots for thinking stimulus helps the economy. We have had stimulus spending for the last 4 years and it has only hurt prolonged the recession and will lead to worse financial times ahead. Most people don't agree with that however, nor do they understand it because hardly anyone supports free market economics. Third, of course the Republicans and Romney hope for a weaker economy, but what's wrong with that. If they want to take back the seat then they do need the economy to look bad come election time. Whether or not it looks bad this year or not nobody can say for certain, but it will definitely be bad somewhere in the not too distant future. The stimulus spending merely gives artificial short term boosts to the economy, but nothing stable or long term will come of them. If you research the great depression time era you will find that the New Deal FDR embarked on did nothing to help the economy, and in fact caused higher levels of unemployment for more than a decade. That is what is going on now. We will see higher levels of unemployment and a weaker dollar for a very long time. But as if the stimulus spending wasn't already enough to wreck the economy, the Affordable Health Care Act will push the economy over the edge and bring us to a financial disaster. That's what I believe at least. It won't matter if Romney is behind the wheel or Obama, both will drive the economy over the cliff. I used to have more confidence in Romney but he too supports stimulus spending and big government, which is the cause of our problems not the cure. Plus, even if he doesn't pass anymore stimulus, he will most likely ramp up war efforts, thus leading to higher deficit spending and increased national debt, which in turn leads to higher inflation and a weaker economy. I hope things are different if he is elected but judging from the past it is hard to have much confidence.
