Re: anyone good with web pages??

Macromedia studio 8 seems to be superior to mx and to microsofts frontpage 2003 after doing a boatload of research today. I'd love to use that.

You do need to buy a domain name and pay for someone to host your site. I pay yahoo $12 a month to host my site. I just need to make my site be competitive with my competition. Basically you use studio to design the site and then publish it on to your hosted site.

All those programs work just fine Dream and Front Page but nothing beats pure HTML.. Find someone who can write HTML and make you a homepage with notepad. Obviously he must know java, perl, php etc.

Frontpage does html without knowing how to do html, but I usually clean it up some if I have time (I learned HTML years ago, but Frontpage helps speed things up)..Frontpage adds extra coding you don't need sometimes...I also don't use the frontpage extensions...like the frontpage forms or headers..that screws things up. I also do not use frontpage to upload the site as the host server would need frontpage exptension capability. I just FTP everything to the host server.

Godaddy.com has good domain registration and hosting prices..all my clients are set up there and have had no problems.

Right but what I mean is all those programs sometimes know to **** up your design .. thats why many pros go with notepad>html.

$12 a month, huh? My appraisal software offers a service but it's like $300 a year to maintain and I think you have to design your page from their templates. Screw that, I want the most uniqe page out there if I do it. For my business it would be great to have people order appraisal from the sight and then have an auto response system. You know, like it emails me the order and then I can enter where I am like scheduling adn the site would email the client back telling them the appointment date and the ETA. I'd be getting in way over my head if I tried to do all that. LOL

An inexpensive alternative to buying a domain if you have a broadband ISP is to use one of their web-hosting packages, they'll host the pages for you - you simply create and upload them. Some ISP's also offer "personal web space" included at no extra charge with your account - check with your ISP for this info.

Also, the Webeasy program, which I use, doesn't require any HTML knowledge - you simply lay out the page(s) and the program will do the HTML translation for you. It's very similar to the others mentioned earlier in this thread (Frontpage, etc.).
