TweetMe and the boys decided to go fish Lake Fork texas for my bachelor party. All had high hopes of that coveted double digit largemouth...plan was to go early April to increase the odds of a giant and catch the swimbait bite..
After a cold winter in Boston we were all looking forward to the sunny warmth of the Dallas area..
Left Boston April 7th(50 degrees) and flew into Love Field to meet the harshest cold front Texas had seen in a long time..35 degrees, freezing rain wtf!
Talked to the guide (and jipped) and we were all as optimistic as we could be..
Front like that is not good at all for fishing.. :-(
First day Sunday morning was uneventful..zero fish. Crushed some chicken fried steak and chocolate cream pie for good measure. Headed out from lunch at 1130 and tied on a massive 7oz glide bait I bought for the trip.
1st cast and boom! Set the hook into something huge..After boating the fish I got so excited hugged/tackled the guide and we went flying off the upper deck and smashed the windshield of his 80k ranger boat..lmao..if we only had the gopro running I would be a youtube sensation..
I immediately messaged jipped and told him you will not believe it!..flying across the country for just a few days of fishing I did it..I caught a bass locals that live there fish there whole lives for..a 11lb 2oz double digit giant!!!
Even with the worst of conditions us northern boys boated an 11lber, a 9lber, 4 8lbers and a few 7lbers!
Also fun fact, I gained 13lbs in four days I had to spend the next week cutting it back off for the honeymoon. Nothing likely going from complete depletion to southern fried gluttony.
Here are some pics..

TweetNope, I am not shotgunning a beer. My lure got cracked so I had to suck the water out of it between casts.IMG_9499.jpg

TweetThat is awesome
TweetDaaaamn that's a monster! Gotta watch this southern cooking. It'll pack weight on you faster than you can say, "Good stuff ya'll" lol.
TweetMan, that is a fish of a lifetime. I live in Tx and never cracked a 10#r.
What glide bait is that? I cannot remember if you told me. Looks remarkably like a lake fork gizzard shad. that is what those big bass love to eat.
TweetLivingston B Viper 8", color was Ayu...
It actually makes distressed bait fish sounds..not sure how much that came into play but sure was funny to see it work.
We kept our lures on the DL...I'm sure you know how the guides are there..lol
We were hiding are rods or cutting the lures off when we stopped for lunch.
I bought this lure to try it and needless to say quite a few more sold from tacklewarehouse after this trip..haha
